Turn any 2x12 into a rustic, modern bench with a simple configuration of iron pipe fittings. This project can be made in less than 15 minutes without power tools and is a great way to quickly assemble temporary seating for an event. The bench can also be used as a media console for a minimal, industrial aesthetic.

SUPPLIES:

2x12
Available at Home Depot
An 8 foot long 2x12 makes a sturdy bench. If you want a shorter bench, you can have one of the nice Home Depot employees cut down a 2x12 to the desired size.

¾” Black Iron Pipes

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Assemble the legs
Screw the pipes together as shown in the diagram below. The only tricky part is screwing in the last cross bar. When you get to the last cross bar, screw the 12” pipe into the 90˚ elbow completely. Then line up the opposite end with the other elbow and screw halfway into it. The result will be a pipe that is halfway screwed into each elbow. This assembly should be secure, but if you want to be extra safe, use some construction adhesive inside the elbow fittings.







STEP 2: Assemble the bench
Slide the 2x12 between the pipes to complete the bench.



 Optional: 
You can secure pipe legs to the bench by adding pipe clamps fastened with 1” screws.
