DIY Success Stories: Kristen Reilly

HomeMade Modern DIY Success Stories Kristen Reilly

I want to start featuring some examples of how our viewers have implemented and improved on our projects. Every day I'm blown away by wonderful emails from people around the world who are building our designs. I'm excited to start sharing little pieces of their stories and to show how sharing design is a beautiful thing.

HomeMade Modern DIY Success Stories Kristen Reilly

Kristen is 27 years old and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY alongside her 2 quirky rescue dogs, Arthur and Otis. By day, she is an Associate Producer at Antfood, a creative audio studio in Brooklyn. In her spare time she can be found making music, taking photos, traveling, supporting animal rights, being vegan, reading anything neuroscience/brain related and – of course – DIY-ing. She continues to prudently burn the candle at one end and looks forward to the challenge of building more eco-friendly furniture for her home.
“Furniture making always seemed out of my grasp and now I think of it like grocery shopping. Go out, pick the ingredients, and make something that is good for you and good for the environment. I've decided to slowly start rebuilding everything in my home. As a 27-year-old living in Brooklyn, my taste has always been a bit expensive - mid century modern, industrial and cheap usually don't go in the same sentence. I am completely amazed and inspired to keep building the rest of my furniture based on how easy this was. I am vegan and have a really hard time finding furniture that doesn't contain gelatin or animal bi products so this is a fantastic way for me to create a sustainable home and have another outlet for my creativity. Now I feel like I can build my dream home at 1/8 of the cost while recycling what the world already has to offer. So gratifying! Love the site!"
What I love about Kristen’s story is the idea that DIY designs allow people to apply ethical standards of living such as veganism or vegatarianism to the physical things we own.
